Trying KDE for a month...

Ok...Im doing it. It might sound ridiculous since KDE has such a big user base, and for what it stands for but I have been really reluctant to switch over. I didnt initially switch over to KDE 4 because of KDE 4. I was so hyped up about the change, that when it finally did come, I was crushed. So I started trying Gnome, and I really got use to Gnome more than I ever did with KDE. But after following Aaron Seigo's Blog for a few months, Im beginning to see all that KDE stands for, what it represents, and all the strides that it is making.

So in an effort to continue learning I am going to try and learn the ins and outs of this desktop manager. I will be posting periodic updates with Gnome comparisons to show the differences. I haven't decided whether to do Ubuntu or Fedora yet...so I'll report that comparison first.

Ubuntu...good...and bad

I love my Ubuntu netbook. That thing is rocking. In my opinion, it is the best distro that has run on it. Synaptic is easy, apt-get friendly to use, and I love the new notification pop ups. But there has always been a few issues that have annoyed me.

I know they got rid of root (su) to help users...but I miss it. There has been weird issues with my mouse pad. Every once and a while the mouse will only be able to go up and down, but not side to side. What!? And even if I reboot, its not guaranteed to fix it. Even windows didn't do that to me. There has been other small issues, easily fixed, but needless to say I need a new distro. Today I stumbled across this article...and it intrigued me.

I can't say if my experiences are typical [with Kubuntu]; I've heard everything from "It's the best" to "It's the worst." I know there are millions of happy Ubuntu users who are satisfied with how it works, and that is good. That's the whole idea, to enjoy your computing experiences and to get things done.

HTC Hero

I have been following Android since it first came out. It always had a special place in my heart, because I have an unhealthy attraction to any and all GNU/Linux OS's. My past few cell phones have all run windows mobile, and they have worked well enough (my current phone I have to reset it every morning otherwise it will do weird things when I try to answer a call.) Android hasnt been enough to pull me over to a new phone....until now. I just watched a clip about the new HTC Hero, and I did a little dance. They have added so many nuances to the phone (I currently own a HTC Touch Diamond) that it would be like christmas...every day I used it. See for yourself.

Hello World!

I wanted more space to post stuff than twitter's 140 characters. I have comments and thoughts about technology trends that I want to talk about...but my fiance doesn't understand. So you are my outlet. Ignore me if you want to, I don't care. This is just an outlet for me. A digital journal that everyone and their brother can read. (Kinda creepy if you think about it).
