EeePc Friendly Linux

I really want to find a good Linux Distro for my EeePc 901. There was a post that I read recently that said Ubuntu Nebook Remix (UNR), EeeBuntu, Jolicloud, Peppermint OS, and Linux Mint were all good choices. (If I have time, I will throw in openSuse and Fedora.)

I want to find the distro that by default:
  • Runs Smooth
  • Boots Quickly
  • All hardware detected and working
  • Suspend quickly

I have used Ubuntu Netbook Remix the most, so I will try that last. No reason to let it bias my opinion. Reviews will come in the next week. First, I need to come up with a reasonable, but static rating system to rate everything by.

Life

Sorry I have not been posting as of late. Life seems to have taken precedence. I was able to buy house, while just after that being let go of my job. So...things have been a little busy. I am now in the final stages of getting hired and I look forward to keeping up with this blog.

Here is the scope of what I plan on writing about.
  • Android
  • Ubuntu
  • Meego
  • Linux in general
  • Any new technology that gains my interest

Hopefully I can keep up with it, and it will be an insightful and enjoyable read.

Moving Onward

So for the past year and a half or so I have had this crazy idea about getting my Red Hat Certified Engineer. I have been working on and off with Linux at home, and I thought to myself how much I would love to work with Linux. I bought a book to help me prepare for the RHCE, but after the first couple chapters it seems to have fallen by the wayside. I graduated college with a Information Systems Management Degree, got a job, got married....things were busy.

Now since things are starting to settle down and I have begun evaluating where my career and life are going to go in the long term (15 yrs +), I have decided to put Linux on the back burner. At college, all the programming classes were .Net, and my current employer is a Microsoft only company, so all I have done for the past four years is (drum roll please) the dot net environment. After some soul searching, and a long conversation from a programmer friend, I have decided to go for my Microsoft Certified Professional Developer. It's what I know. It's what I'm familiar with. So...as hard as it is for my to set my love for Linux on the sideline, I am going to be devoting my time towards C#.

Linux/GNU I lift my glass to you. Till we meet again.

Now this doesn't mean that I wont be following the Linux Desktop, Mobile environments (Palm OS, Android, etc), and everything that comes between. Instead of purely a Linux blog, I will follow everything I find interesting technology wise. Is that biased...yes, but that's the beauty of the internet.

Oracle Red Hat Merger?

Martin Veitch writes a compelling article about the merger between Oracle and Red Hat. Check it out...

Ok...so...postponing the KDE thing

So after reading Aaron Seigo's blog on the new and upcoming KDE 4.4, I am going to hold out for that to start trying KDE again. I have had a few things come up in my every day life that has made it hard to try it (such as getting married). I will do it. I love what KDE is doing...it just struggles on my netbook for right now, and I havent had time to put it on my desktop. So without further adieu, Aarons blog about KDE 4.4!
